Bangladesh gets stuck for his paper once again

Here we go again. Bangladesh tells MTV that he has yet to receive compensation for producing Lil Wayne’s, “6’7“. He also states that instead of charging for a beat, he asked Wayne for a feature for his album, but never received that as well.
“It’s hard to do when I can’t get Wayne features. I don’t know if it’s the people around the situation or it’s the actual person. Every time we come up with a solution, it never gets taken care of. I just can’t keep really giving them music.”

Souljaboy interested in signing with Cashmoney

Birdman is looking to add another potential superstar to his roster by attempting to sign Soulja Boy. Soulja told Rap-Up the two have already met face to face to face to discuss the possible move. “I met with Baby and Slim down in Miami,” Soulja said. “He’s trying to get me to come over to Cash Money.” It would be an interesting move for Soulja, who already has his own label, Stacks on Deck Entertainment. The allure of working with someone he has been a fan is compelling to Soulja though. “I’ve been a fan of Cash Money since I was young. I’ve been listening to Birdman’s music since I was growing up. I would have never thought” Soulja added. There is the issue of Soulja's contract with Interscope that would obviously have to be dealt with. The rapper owes them 2 more albums. “I still got paperwork with Interscope Records, so I’m just trying to figure out what I’ma do. I got a lot of great options on the table,” he said. What do you think of Soulja's possible move to Cash Money?

Ask Arie: Is twitter effective for promotion?

Arie, is twitter an effective way to promote my music? -No name

Yes and no depending on the technique and timing. [laughing] No don't worry there is no science to twitter promotion. However, the biggest complaint I hear from twits, twitheads, twiggas, twithearts and what-evers is in reference to the numerous links received from artists they don't know. It's a fact people don't like being told by total strangers to click on random links and pressured to become a co-defendant in the retweet spam train.

Reality check!!!! People know when they're randomly picked for "promo" based on the other "@" contacts bunched together. From personal experience I'm flattered to see my name next to @iamdiddy, @eonline, @unclerush and @barackobama. However, I don't know them..... and I'm sure as hell they don't know the person who chose to place us together in some dilapidated twitter blast. In doing this, artists are basically shooting blind, how productive is that? If you don't take what you do serious, why would anyone else???

So, although twitter is very convenient, like anything else it's important and most effective to do your due diligence a.k.a. homework and know exactly who you're sending your music to. You wouldn't send your hip hop track to a rock station [that would be pointless], twitter is the same way.

My advice, get to know who your fans and followers are and start with them. By working within your ACTUAL network, you're sharing with people who have interest in you.

Also, FYI for your mental Rolodex there are programs that can be linked with your social networks to send out prearranged material for distribution to YOUR followers in an organized and timely manner. Helping to avoid leaving every-one's time line looking like your personal promo page and leading to you being blocked or unfollowed.

Good luck!

Lloyd Banks says he's ready to produce his own beats

Queens, New York artist Lloyd Banks is best known for his rhyming ability as a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit, but the rapper is looking to broaden his horizons by jumping into the production game.

Lloyd Banks, who has worked with such top name producers as Swizz Beatz, Eminem, Timbaland, Justice League, 9th Wonder and others, is honing his skills as a producer in the recording studio.

"One of the biggest things I want to do is I want to produce," Lloyd Banks told AllHipHop.com in a recent interview. "As far as sounds. I kind of know what's missing or what would even just sound dope in certain places."

The rapper, who will celebrate his 29th birthday this weekend, said that his urge to produce his own material stemmed from an intense desire to be able to harness his own creativity, on the spot.

"I think you can't be the best artist you can be, like completely overall, until you're able to dictate the pace of your music," Lloyd Banks explained to AllHipHop.com. "The only way you do that is to be able to create the beat. So artists like Dr. Dre, Eminem and Kanye West are the best for a reason. They don't have to wait to get a beat from whoever the hot beat maker is. They create it."

Review: Ceewhy "Black Art"

Ceewhy is ready to bring you "Black Art". This is one of the hottest mixtapes to drop in 2011. I know this mixtape will take Ceewhy's career to a new level. I have a few favorites on the tape including "Easy Money", Blood & Water, Crazy Love and Countdown just to name a few. It is a solid effort from up and coming artist Ceewhy. The mixtape will be available for everyone very soon.

Souljaboy opens of to Complex magazine

On the disappointing sales of The DeAndre Way
“Honestly, I felt like that was one of the best albums in my career. But when the sales came, I just felt like that reflected something that was going on personally in my life. A lot of people don’t know that ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ went platinum and it was a Billboard Top 10 hit. I felt like I should have dropped my album at the peak of ‘Pretty Boy Swag.’ But I dropped the album so far after that. Because after that, ‘Blowing Me Kisses’ performed well and ‘Speakers Going Hammer’ was a hit, but it really didn’t do what ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ did.

“I wanted to release my album on my birthday. But when you’re signed to a label like Interscope, they’ve got a million other artists dropping albums. If I could, I would go in there and say, ‘Hey, I need to ship a million copies on my birthday, July 28.’ I’ve got hit singles and platinum albums, but I can’t demand what day they put my album in stores. It just so happened that my date came to fall upon that winter, when it should have really been that summer.

“Honestly, I shut down for a week [after my album dropped]. I wasn’t talking to nobody, I wasn’t talking to management, and I wasn’t talking to the label. I wasn’t picking up nobody’s calls. I went like that for a week. I was in a state of confusion. I needed answers. I was doing this concert in Hawaii for my fans and then I was in Hawaii for a week.

I shut down for a week [after my album dropped]. I wasn’t talking to nobody, I wasn’t talking to management, and I wasn’t talking to the label. I wasn’t picking up nobody’s calls. I went like that for a week.

“I wouldn’t have been able to go platinum first week anyway, because the label only shipped like 18,000 copies. So I wasn’t able to do gold first week or even 100k, none of that. They only put like 8,000 units in Best Buy. It was crazy. I didn’t know all of that though. I was just going off of, ‘My album’s going to be in stores, so I’m going to promote it as much as I can.’ I’m not the type of person to just be out like, ‘Hey, my label did this and I was in a situation with that.’ But I don’t want to get caught up in record-label-artist drama or nothing like that. I just want to keep everything cool to make music, that’s all.

“Honestly, I had hit singles on that album besides ‘Pretty Boy Swag.’ Like ‘Hey Cutie’ with Trey Songz, ‘Grammy’ with Esther Dean, and ‘Mean Mug’ with 50 Cent. The labels out here, they don’t know what they’re doing. No disrespect to no labels, but I’ve got my ear to the streets. I know what’s hot and I know what’s going to sell, but nine times out of ten you’ve got to bring that to the label, and you’ve got to tell them.

“So I feel like this mixtape is going to set the tone. I’ve got some great music on it, they’re going to like it, and then that’s going to push the momentum into my fourth project on Interscope. I’ve got three more albums with Interscope.

Halle Berry says she is not the marrying kind

"I made all the wrong choices when it came to love. I have been an idiot. I wish I had known then that I'm not the marrying kind. It would have saved me a lot of time, heartache and grief over the years. I have done it twice, and I am not going to do it again. The traditional form of marriage is not for me."
