Drake tops the list of highest paid rappers per show

n a recent list by thesmokinggun.com, documents reveal that the Toronto rapper pulls in over $100,000 dollars per show.

His estimated total per show of $155,000 per show, currently makes him among the highest-paid acts in all of Hip Hop that are CURRENTLY touring.

However, Drake’s dominance in Hip-Hop is nowhere as dominating to the Country and Pop scene. The list reveals some of the others acts who receive more than Drake, and topping in at number one are the “Rascal Flatts,” who make more than 4 times what Drake makes per show.

Peep the list below to see who is charging the big bucks to satisfy their fans, and how far Drake has come before even dropping his sophomore album, Take Care.

Kanye West covers Complex Magazine Dec/Jan

Kanye West covers the Dec/Jan issue of Complex Magazine.
Donda’s Baby Boy graces the cover of the December/January issue of Complex magazine. For the cover story, Editor-in-Chief Noah Callahan-Bever provides a rare look inside Kanye’s “Fantasy Rap Camp” in Hawaii and the making of My Dark Twisted Fantasy.

The sun sets, and Q-Tip and Consequence arrive, straight from the plane. Kanye asks RZA if he’d voice the hook—”Champagne wishes and 30 white bitches/You know the shit is, fuckin’ ridic’lous”—and the Abbott steps into the booth and obliges, immediately transforming from sedate and stoned to amped and aggressive. It’s enough to make us all chuckle on his first take; wrapped around those words, his thick and bizarre drawl just sounds so perfectly…RZA. But Kanye notices something off in the delivery, and he presses the intercom button to talk to RZA: “Um, fam, it’s actually ‘thirty white bitches,’ not ‘dirty white bitches.’” RZA laughs. “I’ll do it again,” he says, “but to be real, the way I be saying words, you ain’t gon’ be able to tell the difference.” Ha! At Rap Camp, the shit is fuckin’ ridiculous.

The rest of the trip settles into a fairly routine pattern, if by “fairly routine” you mean “a succession of both magical and mundane moments starring the musicians who defined your adolescence alongside the most exciting artists of today.” Each morning begins with a 10 a.m. breakfast at Kanye’s Diamondhead residence. Pusha, Tip, RZA, Cudi, Cons, and Kanye’s crew slowly assemble to enjoy the absurdly tasty cooking of Kanye’s in-house chefs. If you’re smart, you order the French toast with the flambéed banana. An hour later, Kanye pulls up in his Porsche Panamera, fresh from the studio. That’s right, from the studio. During my five days in Hawaii, Kanye never slept at his house, or even in a bed. He would, er, power-nap in a studio chair or couch here and there in 90-minute intervals, working through the night. Engineers remained behind the boards 24 hours a day.

You can read Noah’s full story, as well as some testimonials from some of the album’s stars (Pusha, Pete Rock, Nicki, Bon Iver) here. There are also a good 40 or so never before seen candid photos from the studio sessions that you can peruse here. A couple samples:

T.I covers the latest issue of Vibe magazine Dec/Jan 2010

Days before he reported back to prison, T.I. sat down with VIBE's Erik Parker and gave his most candid interview to date. Here is an excerpt from the explosive cover story.

I’ve heard you mention how the good that you’ve done is easily forgotten. Do you feel that you’ve been treated unfairly?

If I place my value in the way humans treat me, then maybe. But they’re human, man―they can’t help themselves. They do that to people they know personally. So how can I expect them to treat me, only knowing me through television? They did that to Jesus. They did that to Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali. They did it to every great person you could possibly think of. When it was all good, they was with them. When things got bad, then they was against them.

But in this case things didn’t “get bad.” It’s something you did.

Let me just say this: [he sits up on the couch] If you look at a guy who came up, no pops in the house, moms on welfare, food stamps; started selling dope when he was 12, 13 years old, came up handling guns, being in shoot-outs; started going to jail when he was 15. In all of this chaos and this mischief and lawlessness, the person who was just in jail for machine guns and silencers turns his life around. And now you want to crucify him ―for what? Three pills. I mean, of course it’s wrong and unacceptable and inexcusable. No problem. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s rather petty. It’s rather petty to hold someone’s feet to the fire for something so small when they have overcame things that were so big. All that could have been going wrong―if I was riding with more guns, or if I had gotten into a shoot-out and killed somebody, then I could see that. But just think about it. I’ve gotten it down to this much.

How did you get a drug habit?

I had a lot of work done to my teeth. Oral surgery, extractions, six, seven, eight root canals. Between January to February. As soon as I got out, I had a lot of stuff done. In the joint, you eat s*** that is unhealthy for you. I had fillings that fell out and stuff that had to get dealt with. Of course for the pain they gave me o******** and hydrocodone. And, mind you, on October 13, 2007, I had cut off everything―weed, alcohol. Then I get these pills and I start taking them for the pain at first. And then I’m like, Wait―this s*** makes me feel good. And it’s legal. After the pain went away, I kept taking it. I had like five, six prescriptions. So I had, like 80 pills. Everybody else might have a drink or smoke a blunt, I took a pain pill. Times when I had 18-, 20-hour days, I’d take a pain pill. And eventually I developed―I guess―the beginning stages of dependence.

Have you talked to Eminem about addiction?

Sure. We got a record together, and we talked a lot. I asked him how he knew he was an addict. Basically if you put yourself in harm’s way... if you risk that, you’ve got to assume that there is something fundamentally wrong with your thought process.

T.I writes letter #3 from jail

This experience is truly a pain I have never felt before and that's saying a lot for a n***a who's been down locked up as many times as I have. I see this as a real ass whoopin'. The kind you don't just go back outside to play afterwards. You take ya ass to bed and don't come out of your room until it's time to go to school. I don' t know what effect this will have on my life moving forward but I'm certainly sick and mother f*cking tired of going to jail, juve, prison, the pen, correctional facilities or whatever else you want to call it. I'd have been better off doing a 5-10 year bid one time than going in time and time again for days, weeks and months for the last 15 years of my life. Even though it's been a long road, I'm still standing, barely but nevertheless still standing. At one time I thought my motivation for continuing was for my fans, my partna Philant, my pops, my grandmama, even for the haters or the people I let down. But nah... I got to do this s**tfor me!!! I'll be God damned if I've come all this way and made it through so much hell to let it go down like this! F*ck that! If an hour in the dark is worth a second in the sun then pass me my mother f*ckin' shades cause I'm ready to cash my darkest hours in...ASAP!!! A lot of folks had fathers or father figures in the house to raise them into manhood. I'm not trying to make any excuses for my situation but my father was a hustler that lived in New York. My uncle was a local big time dope boy turned 10 year federal inmate. My mother and grandparents did the best they could but I found my manhood in the trap and in prison systems. But I found it. And nan one of mine will ever have to feel the cold tight grip of a handcuff or grace the presence of a jail cell if I can help it. Over my dead body! So if you can't respect that you ain't rocking with my movement then F*ck you dog! I know a bunch of mother f*ckers who are.....

Nicki Minaj- Pink Friday album review

It wasn't until I listened to Pink Friday that I realized how incredibly talented Nicki Minaj is. All the hype is definitely worth the wait. I love the album, to me its an incredible piece of work. One of my favorites on the album is "Save me". You can't help but relate to "Fly" feat Rihanna. I can't give it all away but you won't be disappointed. Great work Nicki, 5 out of 5 stars.

Rihanna interview with Power 105

On Nicki Minaj:
Nicki Minaj wrote for Rihanna on Rated R....I remember her sending me incredible ballads that I couldn't believe an MC wrote. She is a great songwriter

On Fashion
She loves to shop at H&M and she actually goes in the store herself to pick her own clothes out. She says she has to touch the clothes to make sure it won't itch. She admits to being caught by the paparrazi in the same jeans 2 days in a row and she does not care. If she buys something and she really likes it and she will wear it again

On the "F- you necklace"
She had the necklace on for a few days..she had showered in it and slept it in. She forgot about it being on. She was on her way to dinner and between walking from the hotel to the car the kids stopped her for a photo. She never says no kids. She was not thinking about the necklace when she took the photo.

On Matt Kemp
She admits to being in love with him. She goes to some baseball games but she stopped going in an effort to keep work separate. She knows nothing about the sport of baseball

On Drake and recording "What's My Name" with him
She comments on when Drake said that she used him I would definitely say that was wrong and he does not know what he is talking about. We just became friends and we left it at that.Drake has a youthful thing about him and he is very melodic with the way he writes and I felt I needed someone like that for "Whats My Name"

On reading blogs
She reads the blogs sometimes. Is a lot more numb to what people write about her. It's a community for people who have nothing else to do and hate themselves, they hate their life, they hate their job, they hate their appearance, they are uncomfortable with who they are so what makes them feel good is talking smack about other people who they think they will never ever see in their life and they happen to be celebrities so they get to hide behind their computer

Funniest rumor she ever heard about herself
Dating (LA Laker) Andrew Bynum. Datewise? i just couldn't believe they insulted me like that. No, i'm just kidding he is just not my type

How to promote indie hip hop videos online?

With millions of indie artists promoting things online with the goal of selling music, I wanted to throw some more tips out there to promote videos online. I wrote another great article here so check that also.

Here are a few more great tips for indie artists to market their videos online. Most indie artists have a low budget so most of these ideas cost nothing or very little.

  1.  Use all the up to date technology. There are some great companies that can create an iPhone app for your business for only $50. You can just google create an iphone app and you should be able to come up with some companies that can create a low cost app for you. Promote the iphone app on your social networks.
  2. If you can afford it, hire a publicist for one month and let them work your video. Most publicists have great blog and internet contacts. Most of the time they can get you placed on sites that wouldn't usually bother posting your video. You could also get a college publicity student to work your video for free for the experience.
  3. Email, email, email your video using facebook, personal email, text and myspace. If you can send someone a message, let them know about your video.
  4. You should also add a direct marketing approach like visiting the high schools and colleges by giving out flyers with the url where people can watch the video.
More tips coming soon check the other article here

Jay Electronica signs with Rocnation

The headline says it all. Congrats to Jay Electronica! I can't say I'm too surprised when I first heard the news earlier tonight, but now that it is official, it drives home the power move made by Hov. Maybe that will lead to a Jay-Z/Jay Elec collab? According to miss info, that may be in the works already (as seen below). Why not throw a lil' J. Cole in there for more Roc Nation representation? Also check out a TwitVid of a freestyle after the announcement was made tonight (shouts 2 AY):

Earlier I spoke to Jay E. about the big news, and his plans. He said that the actual contract was signed on Saturday, after a few weeks of intense daily communication and creative courtship. How did it start? With a chance meeting at the Spotted Pig. How did Electronica know Hov was serious? His second replay email came attached with a verse. That ended up becoming the Jay Electronica and Jay-Z collaboration "Shiny Suit Theory" (featuring French chanteuse Charlotte Gainsbourg and The-Dream).

There's irony in the fact Jay-Z appears on a Jay Elec song that's based on Diddy's description of Jay Elec. Because Diddy has been mentoring and courting Jay for over a year, in the hopes of signing him as well. Electronica insists he values everything Puff contributed and hopes to have him involved in his career, but said "Jay-Z made me an offer I couldn't refuse. And I have the freedom I need too." The natural of the underground, the anti-establishment, the independent artist is rapidly changing...so I'm anxious to see what happens when Jay the conglomerate and Jay the mystic mix commerce and art.

MC Hammer says beef with Jay Z is over

MC Hammer has declared that the beef between he and Jay-Z has now come to an abrupt ending.

“As a responsible veteran of twenty something years of this [Hip-Hop]. I can't leave it out there with tensions,” MC Hammer told AllHipHop.com exclusively. “I am reading comments on both sides, it's not about that, I have seen all of that before. There is an opportunity to say at some point. We onto the next thing. You know, Jay took his shot and I answered. Now let's move on.”

Hammer also told his nearly 2 million followers on Twitter that he was ready for peace.

“7 Days is enough. I'm Accepting Jay Z at his "Word" and moving on. I made my point. #KingHammer,” he tweeted. Jay-Z denied that he was dissing Hammer in recent interviews, stating he was only being lyrical on the Kanye West track "So Appalled."

Furthermore, Hammer told AllHipHop.com that other matters were commanding his attention, those in his native Oakland.. The recent case surrounding Oscar Grant’s murder and the controversial two-year sentencing of the officer that killed him was one matter. Of the case Hammer tweeted, "The Justice System failed again. Oscar Grant (RIP) was an unarmed victim slain by the court today."

Even more recently, another unarmed man named Derrick Jones, 37, was shot and killed by police in Oakland.

Hammer recently sent out a picture of himself, Oscar Grant’s family and other members of the community (seen at the bottom of the article) after speaking out at an event.

Of the Jay-Z beef, while it is over, Hammer said that he simply wanted to make sure Hip-Hop was educated on who his is now, not only from the late 80’s and a 90’s.

“I already know that this [beef] was going to go down like this. I know the Hip Hop audience. Ain’t nobody more aware than me,” he concluded.
