Yesterday, Yahoo and Microsoft finally announced the big deal that would transform their “search platforms into a market competitor.” Microsoft will power Yahoo Search, while Yahoo gets a revenue sharing agreement. How did Wall Street react? While Microsoft investors and shareholders had a mildly positive reaction to the deal, Yahoo shares sunk. By billions of dollars.
We were hoping that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer would have something interesting to say about the market’s reaction to the search deal. And once again, he does not fail us. At a meeting with industry analysts this morning, Microsoft’s leader described the negative reaction of Yahoo investors to the deal with three words:
“Nobody gets it.”
That’s probably an appropriate reaction when your partner’s stock drops two days in a row (Yahoo shares plummeted 12% on Wednesday alone). According to the New York Times, Ballmer was surprised at the market’s reaction to the deal. He tried to win over analysts by explaining how Yahoo receives a big, fat 88% revenue cut of all search ads sold on its properties. Disappointed investors preferred to get at least some cash up-front, and when they didn’t, the stock tanked.
Still, we don’t disagree with the assessment that the two companies are probably better off together than apart. And with a 10 year search deal where revenue is shared, both companies have incentive to make the partnership work in the long-term.

Hip hop news: Camron talks new label and film company

Camron is in the news lately because he announced the formation of a new crew called The UN and a film company. He plans to make a few films and then release a new album. I am a big Dipset and Cam fan but I don't know how the people are gonna take to this new crew. Each member of Dipset started their own crews and I'm wondering if this is overkill. Juelz, Freekey, Cam, Jim Jones all started new movements. Non of them have been able to really sell as much records as Dipset did, that's why the fans want a reunion. Hopefully one of these guys can get the numbers or popularity they once had.
Shout out to Freekey

Social Media: Google sells its stake in AOL

Mashable reports
At the end of 2005, Google (Google) made an interesting investment: $1 billion dollars for 5% of AOL. The move made sense for AOL – it provided it with a ton of new advertising, search, and revenue opportunities via a strong partnership with Google. Google, in return, got a 5-year deal to be AOL’s default search engine.
But the value of that deal has only dropped like a rock in a lake since then. AOL has continued to deteriorate, despite highlights like the acquisitions of Bebo and Socialthing. Thus, Google’s decided to cut its losses and has sold back its AOL stake for $283 million.
According to Business Insider, Time Warner (AOL’s parent company) has made a regulatory filing with the SEC to confirm the transaction. On top of the sale, it was also revealed this afternoon that Time Warner has filed to make AOL its own company – an expected move. According to MarketWatch, the new company will be AOL Inc.
The sale means that Google, in total, lost $717 million as a pure investment. This doesn’t include the value it generated in its search partnership, but we’re willing to bet it wasn’t worth more than $700 million. It also places AOL at a valuation of $5.7 billion, a far cry from its peak during the first dot com boom, when everyone had an AOL account.

Sports: Shaq jumps into the comedy business

allhiphop.com is reporting
Rapper/star NBA basketball player Shaquillle O’Neal will don his producer hat on September 8th with Codeblack’s DVD release of The All-Star Comedy Jam series.
The comedy series, which was originally taped live in Phoenix, Arizona before the NBA All-Star Game, features standup routines by host Cedric The Entertainer, Tommy Davidson, Aries Spears, Kevin Hart and DeRay Davis.
O’Neal produced the 88-minute DVD in conjunction with Jeff Clanagan’s Codeblack Entertainment, one of the first modern African-American owned, new media/entertainment companies.
"I am excited to partner with a veteran like Jeff Clanagan and I am thrilled to be venturing into the comedy and television world," Shaq said of the DVD’s release in a statement.
In addition to backstage commentary from each comedian, the All Star Comedy Jam series DVD features guest appearances from fellow comedian Katt Williams and Hip-Hop couple Nelly and Ashanti.
O’Neal, Clanagan and Codeblack Entertainment have already started production on the second installment of the series, which was taped live during the 13th annual American Black Film Festival in Miami.
The latest installment, which is hosted by D.L. Hugeley, features Earthquake, Arnez J., Lavell Crawford and Melanie Comarcho.
"I am thrilled to collaborate with one of the NBA's most distinguished athletes on these multi-star live comedy events,” Clanagan commented. “This partnership will help expand Codeblack's reach into television and further cement our desire to both develop and produce exciting entertainment projects.”
The first installment of Shaquille O'Neal and Jeff Clanagan’s All-Star Comedy Jam will be released on DVD on September 8th.

Educational: Wolves to rescue Scotland

No wolves have trod the Scottish Highlands for more than 250 years. Meanwhile, the local red deer, with no natural predators, have been grazing the hillsides bare, and there's been talk in Scotland about the possibility of bringing wolves back. Now a U.S.-Australian research team is arguing that wolves would be a good way to restore the ecology--not just by reducing the numbers of deer but also because they would significantly change deer behavior by creating a "landscape of fear."
Scientists headed by Adrian Manning of the Australian National University in Canberra have been studying the effects of the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park in the northwestern United States, which occurred in the 1990s. The purpose was "mostly to get the wolves back as native species," says William Ripple, a professor of forest ecosystems and society at Oregon State University in Corvallis. But there was an unforeseen bonus: Not only did the elk population go down, but there have been "major ecological effects," Ripple says. The elk now steer clear of areas where they perceive risk from wolves, leading to the regrowth of aspens, willows, cottonwood trees, and berry-producing shrubs. That in turn has supported the resurgence of beaver and bird populations.
In Scotland, says Ripple, "we want to broaden the discussion not just to the intrinsic value of the wolves but to the ecological effects." The red deer have been nipping Scots pines in the bud, so now the pine population has some trees as old as 300 years but no young trees. The deer have also laid waste to the birch population. In a paper in press in Biological Conservation, the same team that studied Yellowstone recommends that a large-scale experiment be carried out, perhaps on an island, to see if the highlands could support a population of Canis lupus. Ripple says the Scottish red deer are the same species that in Yellowstone Park are called elk, and the wolf in question is the same gray wolf.
Such an experiment is a "sensible idea" in the opinion of Timothy Coulson, a population biologist at Imperial College London. It would require a lot of land--at least 1300 square kilometers, he says. The average wolf needs about 260 square kilometers to roam in. And "to draw solid conclusions, ideally you need two or three packs of wolves"--a couple of dozen individuals--as well as many hundreds of deer. Nonetheless, says Coulson, "My guess is, were wolves to be introduced in Scotland, we would see similar effects" to those in Yellowstone.

Kristinia Debarge is the latest to hit the pop scene

Coming from the family of one of my favorite groups, Kristinia Debarge seems like she has the world behind her. Her music is really pop, meaning its sounds like it will appeal to everyone. It has a rock and R&B type of feel kinda like Rihanna. When I listened to her album that's the first thing that came into my head. You can listen to the full album on myspace here.
Television: I got a chance to checkout Tiny and Toya show on BET

I got a chance to watch The Tiny and Toya show on BET and I have to say it wasn't bad. I don't watch TV but I got a chance to catch what they have online. Its not a bad show actually even though they are painting T.I to be a overly possessive husband and for Toya to not be over Wayne after all this time is just ridiculous. The only thing I can assume is that they were still having a relationship up until recently. She claims he was her first everything but this guy has impregnated numerous women since you have been divorced and that is reason enough to move on. Wayne has moved on Toya you should too. This is a show worth catching even if you just wanna see Toya in some tight pants. Toya is a banger.
